About Girls Fight Back
Girls Fight Back is a live 60 to 90-minute seminar with a goal of teaching women of all ages the basics of personal safety and self-defense. Delivered in a fun and “edu-taining” format that blends straight talk, comedy, and good ol’ fashioned ass kicking – the GFB presentation has been seen by over ONE MILLION women since 2001. Our speaker team presents year-round, nationwide, at schools, colleges, corporations, brownie troops, senior living centers, and more.... Well, you get the idea. We’re kinda everywhere. All the time. Our online store is designed to provide GFB products to promote the GFB message and to offer quality pre-selected safety products as well. Our headquarters is in Dallas, TX, but the GFB family is located nationwide.
Girls Fight Back was born in direct response to the June 2001 murder of a gorgeous, athletic, and loved college student named Shannon McNamara. Only two weeks after Shannon’s death, her friend and sorority sister, Erin Weed, realized the need for practical and empowering options for young women to learn violence prevention and self-defense. Inspired by the way Shannon fought her attacker, Erin abandoned her career and set out to learn all she could about self-defense and personal safety. She immersed herself in training with the best violence prevention experts and self-defense trainers in the world, and developed the GFB seminar. By combining core values, a fun and empowering attitude, and the best safety and self-defense methods available, Girls Fight Back was born. This sisterhood of the traveling bad asses continues to grow and strive to make preventing violence and fighting back an approachable topic for women and girls of all ages.
The gender-neutral show, Students Fight Back, utilizes everything we have learned about campus safety over the past 15 years through Girls Fight Back, to complete our mission--helping men and women stand together as a united front against violence and rape culture in all of the ways it presents itself. We focus on being active bystanders and better allies as well as representatives of enthusiastic consent and teach survivor support, verbal de-escalation skills for your everyday life, and boundary setting. We also help you hone your intuition, awareness, and teach you the basics of personal safety and self-defense. All of this combines to create a Title IX compliant program that is audience-interactive, fun, and engaging. SFB is customized to include campus resources to seamlessly fit into your overall safety plans and is presented by one of our three speakers who are trained in self-defense, personal safety, and victim advocacy.
